Poem - And U Call Me Coloured?
This poem strongly relates to the quote written by Barack Obama in many ways. Obama's quote could be referring to a poor young child of any race, yet this poem was written by a an African child at about 5 years old, he showed through his poem the struggles of racism and the difference between whites and blacks. A big part of America is how diverse it is supposed to be, and how it gives equal opportunities for everybody. It's clear that there are still bits and pieces of racism still around in the world, but the special little works like this really bring attention to the public's eyes today.
Norman Rockwell- The Golden Rule- Artwork that can relate:
Norman Rockwell was a 20th-century American painter and illustrator. His works showed broad popular appeal in the United States for their reflection of American culture. This is one of his paintings named the Golden Rule. On this painting this quote is stated "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." This is more commonly heard now as "treat others the way you want to be treated." Rockwell played a huge role in the American Experience because of his many works that perceived American cultures in many different ways. This painting especially shows that although everybody appears to be different, depending on race, or religion, etc, everybody was still created equally, and should be treated equally in society as well.
